If you are among the many who had the pleasure of seeing last year’s “Miss Bennet” you will find the same intriguing characters and situations with this year’s offering. It is a superbly acted period piece that gives us a glimpse of holiday life in the early 1900s England. This is a beautiful gem of a play that truly enhances the holiday season.

This is a show about friendship...nothing more and nothing less. Forget it is about two brilliant women who helped shape the world. Instead, it focuses on their comradery and their lives as women fighting against the wrongs that still face women over one hundred years later. This show is a frisky feminist crowd pleaser.

“Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll” turns more into “Lack of, Pharmaceuticals and Going For Baroque” as intense personalities clash in a pressure cooker atmosphere of professional string quartets. Soothing music is inter-spaced with intense arguments giving an interesting counter point of which much is to be found in the music itself. No love or knowledge of classical music is required for this fast moving theater nugget. Check this one out.

If you see only one Christmas themed show this season it really should be this one. The ensemble draws you into the action almost as if you are one of the family. It is a warm and comfortable feeling and should not be missed. Buy a ticket before they are all gone.

This little gem of a show is one that should not be missed. It is less about musical prowess and more about one’s love of music no matter what the consequences. The two actors work extremely well together and give a flawless performance. SEE THIS SHOW!

If you have become jaded by the yearly renditions of “the same old same old” then you owe it to yourself to see an entirely different take on a Christmas classic. This is superb acting with plenty of room for your imagination to take flight as we learn “the other side of the tale”. Bring the entire family for an enjoyable evening of fine community theater.

Some plays were born to be placed in small intimate theaters and “Same Time, Next Year” is a perfect fit for Clague Playhouse. It is a delightful story with naughty undertones that touches your heart while giving you a history lesson of the 50s through 70s. Come feel the love!

This is National Women’s Month and what better way to celebrate it than to see a production that shines the light on heroes of the female gender. In this play we are introduced to women who gave their all in the pursuit of justice so that future generations would be entitled to a safe work place. Well worth the time and price to see this show.

For those theater goers who wish to see three excellent actors working off of each other this is a must see show. Volumes of dialog are replaced with subtle yet knowing inflections that only years of being on local stages can create. It is nuance theater at its best.

While Christmas tales abound this time of year, "Christmas at the Wiley Diner" is a gentle notch above the rest. It is a story of friendship, tradition, home and hearth that is told in a non-jarring way. This is a wonderful play to share with the entire family.

Bob Abelman (reviewed for the CJN by community theater critic Eric Kish)

Dark Ages Catholicism is not often associated with anything remotely comical.  But thanks to Michael Hollinger’s clever 1996 farce “Incorruptible,” that comedic gap has been bridged and Clague Playhouse’s current production of the show, directed by Tyson Douglas Rand, is something of a blessing.

Mark Horning

Billed as a dark comedy (with more emphasis on the former than the latter)…“that will have audiences asking for mercy while rolling in the aisles with laughter” simply did not deliver as promised on opening night. Hopefully as the cast gets a show or two under their belts the comedic timing will sharpen up and the show will become the promised potential laugh riot.

Mark Horning

While clearly a romanticized look at traditional Irish rural life, Outside Mullingar has enough truth to balance it out. With an outstanding cast who blend well you quickly find yourself falling in love with the characters and their stories. With most Clague Playhouse productions selling out you would be wise to get your tickets quickly in order to enjoy this well produced gem of a play.

Christine Howey

Shanley, whose play Doubt won the Pulitzer and Tony in 2005, and an Oscar for Moonstruck, knows his way around dialogue. And he has constructed a play bristling with witty one-liners and intriguing family dynamics. The cast under the wise direction of Anne McEvoy hits all the notes, although there are a couple wrinkles.

If you can get past the bad accents and wigs, this show is actually rather well done. The suspense is slowly built up and the surprise ending is quite satisfying. It is classic Agatha and needs to be seen. Clague productions nearly always sell out so buy your tickets quickly.

Art Thomas

This beautiful play is perfectly set in the intimate Clague Playhouse performance space. You start with the multi-layered script, move through the sensible and clear direction by Anne McEvoy, and relish four excellent performances. "Proof" starts by asking how "genius" in any form can disrupt a traditional family, and allows deeper questions from there.

Christine Howey

The Clague Playhouse production, performed on a wonderfully detailed set designed by Ron Newell, makes this old-fashioned storytelling ring gratifyingly true and fresh.
