With its great music expertly performed this show is destined to be a huge success. Molly Andrews-Hinders was born to play Carole King with a supporting cast and ensemble that brings her story to life. This is theater just for the fun of it. It truly is beautiful.

Opening night saw an enthusiastic and exuberant crowd cheer on the robust performance of local talent. This is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts with a very tight cast who work flawlessly together. I would highly recommend seeing this show.

It is always nice to find a non-holiday themed show to escape the challenges of the season. This is such a show. While its length may be a bit long, the action moves at a break neck speed. Come see the show to witness what superbly trained volunteers can accomplish after eight weeks of intensive work and where dreams really do come true.

Near West Theatre's energetic non-professional cast of varying abilities could easily leave this musical mashup a mess, were it not for the slick professionalism and creativity of director Trinidad Snider and choreographer Kristy Cruz, plus the rocking musical direction of Jordan Cooper. Even audience members who may not be in sync with the show's politics succumb easily to the new-wave beat of the Go-Go's.

This frothy and exuberant musical is a perfect way to spend an evening at the theater. The much better than usual singing talent combined with well thought out dance numbers and easily remembered flashes from the 80s music scene will delight. They Got The Beat.

At long last, Near West Theatre is able to stage small intimate productions in their brand new 70+ seat Black Box Theatre. This will allow them to broaden their horizons even further as people once again venture out to see live entertainment. Their first production “The Fantasticks” is a nice fit to their plans. Chances are this limited dates production (only five more shows) will sell out in a hurry so get your tickets fast.

If you are startled at things that go bump in the night then laugh this may be the perfect show for you. Elements of stagecraft, choreography, acting and song propel the story of a woeful waif trying to deal with two impossible situations in her life at home and school. This is scary drama at its best as only Near West Theatre can pull off.

By definition, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious simply means fantastic, wonderful and extraordinarily good. The same can be said of the Near West Theatre production of Mary Poppins. The show has it all…huge dance numbers…tender moments…wonderful singing…laugh out loud moments…and most important, a flying Mary Poppins. This is sure to be a sellout throughout its run as it is the best theater value in town. No spoonful of sugar is needed for this show. It is sweet enough on its own.

As in all Near West Theater productions, The Wiz is a family friendly theater outing that the entire clan will enjoy. You will marvel at the youth of the actors on stage and the powerful beyond-their-years performance that they give. This is a great “first time” show to see as well as an inspiration to younger family members as to what can be achieved with hard work and plenty of rehearsal.

Near West Theatre has taken a show that while wildly popular is still written in what some would consider rather bad taste.  None the less it is performed with a high degree of professionalism in spite of the young age of the cast.  Think of this as a school musical done as good as it can be done.  The amazing set, costumes, ensemble work, lighting and orchestra make for an evening of good entertainment.

Near West Theatre’s Assassins is an impressive production.  The cast shows maturity well beyond their years and well develops  the concept, “Everybody’s got the right to be happy,” even if the person is delusional.  Congrats to Bob Navis, Jr., the cast and crew for weaving a fine evening of theatre.  This is a production well worth seeing!

The Near West Theatre’s non-equity production of “Show Boat” is a true community theater achievement that has high production values and is a great value for family entertainment.  Come out and support your neighbors and friends in this surprisingly good performance.
